And three. Thomas Ceccon has the perfect starting number for the first long course World Cup of the season in Berlin. After winning the 200 meter backstroke and 100 meter freestyle, the world record holder now dominates the 100 meter backstroke in 52″27, a promising time for just October. In fact: the same time as world silver. A time that will immediately become a reference for the next ones events (Thomas will also be in Athens next week and in Budapest from the 20th to the 22nd, the very city where he achieved the 51:60 with the world title). Compared to the record, the 22-year-old Italian was behind a gap of 0.59 in the series (today 25:19, for the record 25:14) and then relaxed in a second pool of 27:08 in which he still has room to surpass himself.

Satisfied

“Close to the record? This time in October I didn’t expect only a month of training. “It was a wonderful race in Berlin,” said the police officer who was trained by Alberto Burlina in Verona, still breathing. “My time was the same as at the World Cup this summer. It’s quick and I made a few mistakes, but they can always be fixed. The first of the three stages is over and I’ve almost reached my personal best in every race, so I’m pretty happy. We’ll see how I do in the next two stages.” Qi Haiyang, Haughey’s 52:02, Kaylee McKeown’s double, Pallister’s 8’16 in the 800, Meilutyte’s 56’7 and 29’56 in the breaststroke were other timing gems of the event last day.
