Roberto Mancini is the new coach of the Saudi Arabian national football team.
In a video clip of the national team published on Portal X (formerly Twitter), the Italian said in English: “I made history in Europe. Now it’s time to make history with Saudi Arabia.” The media had previously reported that the 58-year-old was to be presented as the new selection coach this Monday. According to the newspaper “Gazzetta dello Sport”, the former striker should get a contract until 2027.
Zoff after separation
Mancini only handed in his resignation as coach of the Italian national team in mid-August. He had led Italy to the European Championship title in 2021. First Mancini spoke of one “personal decision”. He later said he got one from the head of the Italian Federation (FIGC), Gabriele Gravina “lack of trust” felt because he had replaced part of his coaching staff. The FIGC boss sharply criticized him for this.
