Scotland and Portugal each secured their fifth win in their fifth game in qualifying for the 2024 European Championship and are clearly dominating their groups.
Qualification for the 2024 European Championship is on matchday 5. The group winners and runners-up from each of the ten qualifying groups are certain to take part in the European Championship – this is how 20 of the 24 participating teams will be determined. In addition, there is the automatically qualified host Germany and three teams from the play-offs, which will be based on the results of the Nations League and will take place in March 2024.
Group A: Spain clearly behind Scotland despite victory
Scotland won 3-0 in Cyprus. Scot McTominay (6th), Ryan Porteous (16th) and John McGinn (30th) scored the goals. Scotland remains the clear leader with a maximum of 15 points from five games.
Spain are second with just six points, but have played two fewer games. Alvaro Morata played an outstanding game in a 7-1 win in Georgia and scored three goals (22nd, 40th, 66th). Dani Olmo (38′), Nico Williams (68′) and Lamine Yamal (74′) also scored for Spain, while Georgia’s Solomon Kverkvelia scored an own goal. Giorgo Chakvetadze scored to make it 1:4 (49′). Goalscorer Yamal became Spain’s youngest senior international at 16 years and 57 days.
Group D: Türkiye makes a mistake but stays ahead
The top game of the group between Turkey and Armenia ended 1-1 (0-0). Artak Dashyan scored for Armenia in the 49th minute, Bertug Yildirim equalized shortly before the end (88th). The game was also influenced by the poor relationship between the two countries, which is considered historically burdened by the Armenian genocide. Both associations agreed that no away fans would travel to both games. Croatia scored a clear 5-0 (3-0) against Latvia. Bruno Petkovic (3rd, 44th), Luka Ivanusek (13th), Andrej Kramaric (68th) and Mario Pasalic (78th) scored the goals.

Turkey remains at the top of the table with ten points, Croatia and Armenia follow with seven points each, although Croatia has played one game less.
Group J: Portugal wins top game in Slovakia
Portugal won 1-0 (1-0) in Slovakia, Bruno Fernandes scored the goal (43rd). As leaders, the team now has 15 points from five games, Slovakia remains second with ten points – but Luxembourg moved level with Slovakia on points with a surprising 3-1 (1-0) win against Iceland.

Bosnia and Herzegovina also won against Liechtenstein 2-1 (2-1). Edin Dzeko (3rd) scored for Bosnia, who also benefited from an own goal from Liechtenstein (18th).
More games on the weekend, matchday 6 ends Tuesday
The remaining games on Matchday 5 will take place on Saturday, when England and Italy will also play.
The 6th match day is scheduled from Sunday to Tuesday.
